The Importance of Early Reading Intervention

Posted in Business on May 10th, 2009

Sometimes Reading Intervention is necessary when a child is falling behind in his reading skills and comprehension at school. It is important that the intervention happen sooner rather than later for the best results. Early intervention is the key to catching that student up with his peers, and making way for a successful education career as well.

Early intervention helps not only the student, but the parents and siblings of that student as well. Through the process of Reading Intervention parents will have the opportunity to learn more about the way their student learns, as well as the best ways to foster that learning within their own home. It is a great opportunity for parents and siblings to sharpen their skills while doing their part to help their student who has fallen behind.

Intervention also paves the way for education in the future. Often, those who have fallen behind their classmates lash out by hating school in general. Taking the time to teach those students properly can change their views on learning and education, which means they’ll try harder to be successful in school. This can lead to a rewarding post-secondary schooling experience, which in turn leads to a better quality of life.

Early intervention is important to set your student on the right track for success. If you have doubts about your child’s reading aptitude, see an educator about early intervention as soon as possible.

Learning to Speed Read

Posted in Business on May 9th, 2009

I’ve always wanted to be able to speed read. Watching people do it is amazing and it seems like they have such a huge advantage in school, work and other environments. I’m sure speed reading isn’t the simplest thing to learn so I did some research.

The history of speed reading is very interesting. Like many things, the government was involved in some of the first speed reading test. The US Air Force would flash a few words in front of someone and they found that the person could read them in less than one second.

There has been a lot more research and development done on speed reading and there are some great resources out there. For example, AceReader helps people read faster and improve comprehension in personal, educational, business and special uses.

Aircraft Maintenance Basics

Posted in Education on May 9th, 2009

Aircraft maintenance is an essential component of the life of an airplane. The maintenance your aircraft receives ensures safe flying for you and your passengers. Maintenance that isn’t thorough enough doesn’t only cost you the normal wear and tear on your aircraft, but can result in dire consequences when it comes to the lives of those who fly in the aircraft. Keep your aircraft running smoothly and safely with regular aircraft maintenance in Dallas checkups every time you fly.

An ‘A’ Check is performed eveyr 500 flight hours. This check is thorough and takes less time than the other checks. It is routine and looks at key components of the aircraft. A B check is performed every three months. C Checks are performed every 2500 hours, and D checks, which are the most thorough and arguably the most important, are performed every 4-5 years. D checks basically take the entire aircraft apart to check and maintain every part and piece of the aircraft for maximum security. The goal of the D check is to return the aircraft to its original condition. Often, this is when major problems are discovered and aircrafts are scrapped by major airline companies.

Most aircrafts receive aircraft maintenance in Dallas on a regular basis due to mechanical problems. But the four checks are mandatory by law in order to have a working aircraft in the sky.

What to Look for in an Online University

Posted in Business on May 8th, 2009

As more and more people turn to online degree programs to start or complete their college training more and more online colleges pop up. Of course, some colleges are better than others. If you are looking into an online school, here are a few things you need to consider before making your choice.

First off, is the college or program accredited? This is extremely importance because most of the time potential employers and higher education institutions will recognize the degrees given by an accredited online school. If it isn’t accredited, the degree might not do you much good.

Next, you’ll want to find out if the online degree programs offered are equal to those offered in a traditional college. You want a college that offers classes that will teach you just as much as you would learn on a campus. If they don’t teach you this, they are a waste of your time.

Once you’ve decided the college might be worth considering you’ll want to look at the courses. How will the correspondence work? Will the training be in-depth and keep your interest. When you finish the course will you know what you need to know about the subject? Do your research and find the answers to these questions. They are important.

Another important question is regarding customer service. As a student you are also a customer and you will, at times, need help from employees of the school. You’ll want to find out how the correspondence works and if you’re questions will be answered appropriately and quickly.

Just remember, do your research when considering an online degree program. The university you choose will be handling your money and your education so make sure they can live up to your standards.

Compiled Mail Lists and Managed Mail Lists – Which List Brings the Best ROI for You?

Posted in Education on May 7th, 2009

Did you know that there are at least 30,000 mail lists just in the United States? So how to you choose the best one for your business? First, you need to understand that there are basically two different kinds of mail lists: compiled and managed. Compiled lists are databases put together from public records such as tax files and telephone books. Managed lists (also called response lists) are collected from sources like magazine subscriptions, catalogs, product warranty cards and the like — any record of a purchaser or even a person who has contacted a vendor about a service or a product.

The less expensive of these two mail lists is the compiled list of course, so they’re generally used by mass marketers who have limited budgets. It’s not a completely scattershot approach, though: even compiled data has enough demographic information to make accurate targeting possible. If the mailing is less than 5,000 pieces and is designed to reach all the households or business in a specific area, then a compiled list may make perfect return-on-investment sense.

On the other hand, targeting very specific groups across a large area is usually better served by the more expensive response lists–but do check that the list has been recently updated. You don’t want to pay for a lot of past subscribers (which lists are available, but at a much cheaper cost). So, if you would like to reach boaters, you should see if current subscriber lists from magazines such as Go Boating, Powerboat and Sea or Wooden Boat are available to purchase. Although the price of the mailing list might be substantially higher, the response rate should also be correspondingly higher.

Christian Credit Counseling May Provide Extra Guidance and Comfort to Believers in Debt

Posted in Medical on May 6th, 2009

Christian credit counseling offers clients pretty much the same services as any counseling service, except that Christian credit counseling takes into consideration the Biblical and spiritual point of view. Lifestyle excesses and the discipline necessary for budgeting may be discussed at some length, with solutions offered using examples taken from the Scriptures. For example, a Christian credit counseling staff may use words like “greed” or might advise that a client learn not to covet material items or social status. These are very personal issues and may cause deep offense to someone who is not familiar or comfortable with the precepts of Christianity; on the other hand, someone who is conversant with the teachings of the Bible and believes in them may find the counseling to make wonderful sense.

Of course, the goals here are (as with secular counseling) twofold: firstly, to provide guidelines which–when followed–will help people avoid replicating those behaviors that led to debt problems in the first place. The second objective is that the client learn enough about financial responsibility to benefit long-term. That means not only not getting mired in debt again, but also planning for the kids’ college funds, for retirement, and having some fun along the way, with big-ticket purchases like new cars and vacations.

As long as the counseling service you use is accredited by an institution like the National Institute for Financial Counseling Education and is registered with the Better Business Bureau, you can choose a service that you’re most comfortable with.

Natural Meat and Naturally-Raised Meat Are Two Very Different Animals

Posted in Education on May 1st, 2009

The newly-minted definition of naturally-raised meat, as specified by The Department of Agriculture (USDA), still does not go far enough according to proponents of natural meat.

First of all the definitions of ‘natural meat’ and ‘naturally-raised meat’ are entirely different — and that is a cause for real confusion. Natural meat is expressly set out as being ‘minimally processed and without artificial ingredients’. Nothing is mentioned about what it is fed during its life.

On the other hand, the USDA requires that meat sold under the ‘naturally raised’ label be from livestock raised entirely without growth hormones or antibiotics. Furthermore, there must have been no animal by-products in the livestock’s feed to have the naturally-raised meat label.

Unfortunately, these definitions do not in any way guarantee that the animals will be raised in a natural environment as they used to be on traditional, small-time farms where pigs, chicken and cattle had access to the outdoors, fresh air and some exercise. And that’s exactly what shoppers expect when they see either natural meat or naturally-raised meat labels: it’s not enough anymore for animals to simply be chemical free or fed quality, contaminant-free food. These days, consumers are not only aware of the brutality inherent in large production farms, but they openly oppose the inhumane treatment as being completely unnecessary.

With the natural meat industry one of rapid growth, pressure from consumers will likely be more effective in bringing about change in how livestock is treated than any stipulations issued by a government agency. Simply put, if people have a choice between two cuts of naturally raised meat, both from livestock raised without antibiotics, hormones and/or animal by-product feed, they will choose the one that is from an animal who was raised in a humane manner.
