My Adventures in Home Ownership
Posted in Building and Remodeling on January 31st, 2010I love the home I live in, but have had to do a lot of things to get it where it is now. Our back yard has a wonderful view, but is quite large and backs up to a mountain side full of sage brush. Our first spring involved an almost endless amount of weeding. Our landscaping projects lasted all the way into the fall and there was still work to be done in following years. We also spent a lot of time landscaping a cascading stream and waterfall that ended in a pond. Because we did not have anything to provide shade for the pond, the sun encouraged a lot of algae growth that was almost impossible to control without causing harm to our fish.
The interior or our home has needed some work as well. The original kitchen floor was made of a wood laminate that was getting old and needed replacing. We found a wonderful company that installed a hardwood floor for us and we love it. Also we found a company that specialized in window replacement in Toronto and our home is much less drafty.
We finished the basement making a huge room that we use as a game room and movie room. We turned the space under the stairs into a play place for the kids that they enjoy. All in all, we love this home now. If we decide to have more children, however, we may be in need of more space. At that point, our adventures will start all over again.
