Popular Caribbean Tropical Destinations

Posted in Travel on April 12th, 2010

One of the most popular places in the world to vacation is the Caribbean.  The Caribbean is an area located in the Caribbean Sea southeast of the Gulf of Mexico and north of South America.  It is comprised of over 7000 islands, cays, and reefs, which are known collectively as the West Indies.  The climate in the Caribbean is warm and tropical year-round, making it an ideal destination for tourists.  Listed below are the top three tropical vacation destinations in the Caribbean.

Aruba

Aruba is a flat, riverless island of the Lesser Antilles and is located in the heart of the Caribbean.  The area is famous around the world for its pristine white sandy beaches located on the southern and western sides of the island.  The location gives them shelter from damaging ocean currents.  Surfing, swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, boating, and golfing are just a few of the outdoor activities a tourist could experience.  Accommodations include hotels, resorts, villas and rental condos.

Cayman Islands

The Cayman Islands are a group of three islands in the Caribbean located south of Cuba and northwest of Jamaica.  The Seven Mile Beach on Grand Cayman Island is world-famous and often referred to as the best beach in the Caribbean.  The Caymans have unlimited activities for tourists and accommodations include some of the most prestigious hotels, resorts, and Cayman vacation rentals.

Barbados

The island of Barbados is a flat coral island with a warm sunny climate year-round, dryer than most other Caribbean islands.  The island features lush botanical gardens, acres of sugar can fields, and powdery white sandy beaches.  Barbados is often considered the more sophisticated and glitzier of the Caribbean islands with some of the best hotels and resorts in the area.

Does Using Adult Humor Really Help Sell Merchandise?

Posted in Advertising and Marketing on April 12th, 2010

While eating at a local seafood restaurant, I noticed that one of the servers was wearing a shirt that said “We’ve Got Crabs.” The use of such a pun that also involves adult humor is clever marketing indeed. But is it appropriate, and does using adult humor really help sell merchandise?

In the case of this restaurant, it seemed fitting indeed. It is a chain that serves good food and doesn’t take itself too seriously: it caters to a younger demographic rather than the blue-plate special crowd. A company that can make fun in a playful way is young and hip. Will it bring more people in to eat at the restaurant? Who knows! But the message certainly stuck in my mind: and that’s what effective marketing is all about.

I recently visited a site called SexandT-Shirts.com. Of course, I was completely intrigued. They sell adult humor t shirts with a specific message: ” What do Sex and (fill in the blank here with product or business name) Have in Common?” Whoever sees this shirt has his interest piqued, of course, but has to look at the BACK of the shirt to get the answer: “I Like Both!”

This is adult humor, to be sure, but it’s mild in its tone. Would it be appropriate for a dentist’s or lawyer’s office? Of course not! But if you have a fun product to sell or if yours is the type of business that has a little bit of an edge to it, then using this type of adult humor t shirts is a great marketing technique.

The bottom line is, any kind of memorable marketing technique will no doubt ultimately result in selling more merchandise: and it will definitely capture more mindshare. In these competitive times, getting the public’s attention is what it’s all about.
