Spending Time in Scottsdale, Arizona

Posted in Food and Restaurants on May 27th, 2010

My uncle lives in Scottsdale, Arizona and any chance I get I take a trip to visit him.  I have been coming to Scottsdale for over a decade now and every year I fall more in love with this beautiful place.  Well I would say I am in love with everything except the ridiculous hot temperatures in the summer.

This year we spent a lot of time trying the new restaurants in Scottsdale. I have to admit that there are some really modern and upscale restaurants in Scottsdale and I have been to a lot of them, but these new ones were terrific.  If you enjoying eating out Scottsdale is a great place for you to try as there are tons of great options for you to choose from.  The cuisine is moderately priced depending on where you go and you can literally eat food from around the world.

Another one of my favorite activities in Scottsdale is playing golf.  I have been playing golf my whole life, but you probably wouldn’t know it since I’m not that good.  It is however something that I love to do and we play at least once a day while I am visiting my uncle.

It certainly doesn’t hurt that he owns a home on a golf course.  So next time you are in Scottsdale be sure to check out their dining scene as it is one of the best in Arizona and don’t forget to bring your golf clubs.

Gathering To Share War Stories

Posted in Food and Restaurants on May 27th, 2010

One of my favorite cities to visit is San Francisco. I have a number of friends that gather each year in the city and get together to exchange war stories and catch up on what each of us has been doing for the past few months. Because we all come in from different parts of the country we enjoy a variety of activities that keep the adrenaline flowing, but inevitably at the end of the evening we always end up downtown at an Irish bar. San Francisco has a number of great venues that are lively and entertaining, but for the crew I get together with there is something friendly and inviting about the pub that we frequent when we are all in town.

Of course we take the responsibility of assigning a designated driver seriously, which inevitably ends up being me as I am one of the few who do not drink. In spite of my choice I still enjoy spending time hearing about all of the adventurous travels of my cohorts and eating a well prepared meal. In my opinion there are very few restaurants that can match the quality of food served up by an authentic tavern.

Typically, my band of companions and I begin and end our weeklong escapades in the city by the bay, but we do take advantage of everything that Northern California has to offer as we attend meetings and training exercises that strengthen our friendship and help us to reach for greater personal accomplishments. Once we are done with the days events we can usually be found in the financial district having a good time at a sports bar in San Francisco.

Discovering the Joys of Italian Food

Posted in Food and Restaurants on May 27th, 2010

One of the greatest joys that we get to experience is eating food.  Just think about the last time you had a world class chef cook you a meal and I bet your mouth starts to water.  However, you probably also remember the last time you had a very poorly cooked meal.  I bet it left you feeling a little disappointed and under nourished.

If you like to try cuisine from many different cultures chances are you have had the chance to try Italian food.  Italian cuisine is one of the most popular cuisines in the United States and for good reason, it is delicious.

There are so many different types of Italian food that you can try and recently I was in North Carolina for work and I went to several Raleigh Italian restaurants.  Many of these restaurants were fantastic and I was able to try things like chicken parmesan, stuffed ravioli, and many other great options.

Another thing that is great about Italian cuisine would have to be the desserts.  One of the most popular and favorites of many is Tiramisu.  If you have never had traditional Italian Tiramisu it is something you need to experience right away.  It will take your breath away.

So next time you are in Raleigh stop in to enjoy the Raleigh Italian restaurants you won’t be disappointed.

Marriage Advice For Overworked Couples

Posted in Travel on May 25th, 2010

My wife and I have been planning a getaway from our five children for a couples retreat, and after doing some research in our local area we are looking at sneaking away from home for a couple of nights at one of the Utah resorts not too far away from our home. By splitting up the kids between my sister and grandma we can make an escape to the mountains and have a chance to reconnect with each other once more. With all of the strains and stresses of finishing a teaching degree and running between programs for school plays and all of the other activities of work that are associated with the daily routine it seems like forever since we have been able to take a break from all of the demands of life and spend some quality time together.

Because of our busy schedules we wanted to plan a simple weekend to ourselves that does not require a great deal of planning or preparation. What we found was a beautiful Utah resort within a short distance that caters to the kind of pampering that we are looking for. Aside from the luxurious accommodations, we have found a quiet place that has a full spa and natural mineral baths, golfing on a private course, and dining options that allow us to mingle with other people or hide out in our room and order in. After being married for 17 years we have discovered that it is essential to the health of our marriage to take a well deserved break from our obligations every once in a while and recharge our batteries, just the two of us.

Hiring Professional Moving is Moving Made Easy

Posted in Uncategorized on May 25th, 2010

I read once that moving is listed among the top ten major stressful events that people experience in life. I laughed at that at the time, thinking, honestly, these people are kind of wimps if they rate the stress of moving up with the death of a loved one, a divorce, or serving a term in prison. I have moved several times with my parents while growing up, and while is was always a big ordeal, the process of moving never lasted more than a week tops, and seemed to calm down pretty quickly.

However, now that I am the adult and have to be the one orchestrating the move, I am starting to realize how truly stressful a move can be. My family has lived on the West Coast for several years and recently my husband accepted a position working for a large company in Florida. That’s a big move across the country to an unfamiliar place and entirely culture. We had to take a trip over for a reconnaissance mission and try to find a suitable home for our family, as well as make arrangements for the move.

Luckily, we were put in touch with a moving company in Ft. Lauderdale and a moving company in West Palm Beach that can make the logistics of the move go smoothly. The packing, lifting and transporting of our belongings really shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Now I can focus on the truly important aspects of the move; like finding a good school nearby for my daughter to start kindergarten, checking out soccer clubs for my son, and convincing my husband that the hideous shag carpet in our new home is crying out to be updated with a more subdued hue.

Taking Care of Your Lawn

Posted in Gardening and Landscaping on May 24th, 2010

Where I live in Des Moines, Iowa taking care of your lawn is one of the most important things.  We actually live in a neighborhood where if your lawn doesn’t look spectacular the home owner’s association can fine you.  That being the case we are always making sure that everything looks great.

Here are some tips on how to take care of your lawn.

The first tip is to make sure that your lawn is getting enough water.  Just like any plant grass needs water to thrive without it the grass will turn brown and dry up.  By watering your grass regularly you are giving it a better chance to thrive and look its best.

The next thing you want to do is make sure you fertilizer your lawn from time to time.  Your lawn needs to have certain fertilizers in it to grow and stay green.  By adding fertilizer occasionally to your lawn you can help it look even better.

All of this Des Moines lawn care can start to become a lot of work especially if you are working a full time job.  One of the easiest ways to handle that is to simply hire a Des Moines lawn care company to help take care of your lawn for you.  It will allow you have a great looking lawn and not take up all your spare time.

Finding a Save Haven for Children

Posted in Education and Instruction on May 24th, 2010

As soon many women find out they are pregnant with that first little baby they begin to worry about child care for their baby.  The love that parents have for their children makes it hard to leave them all day while they are at work.  They want their children’s world to be safe, loving and protective when they can’t be with them.

Child care in Pasco, Richland and Kennewick just got easier with the introduction of Jigsaw Kids day care.  All of the teachers have bachelors or masters degree and are all bi-lingual.  Classes are taught each day in both languages as children are very adept at language retention, usage and verbalization at early ages.  Children have an amazing ability to learn and retain before the age of five.  The children at Jigsaw Kids are not just babysat each day but nurtured, educated and their minds expanded to explore and enjoy the world around them.  Socialization at this age is so important and is an intragal part of the curriculum.  Play is work for children, this is where they learn to communicate, to share, to interact with others, to problem solve and many other important growth characteristics necessary to become a well adjusted adult.

The new baby is coming or maybe there is already several in the home, check out the preschool programs available but before you make any permanent decision, check out Jigsaw Kids where they are constantly adding pieces to the puzzle of children, which includes protect, nurturing and caring for your children while you are away.

Office Supplies, Necessity for Everyone

Posted in Business Management on May 24th, 2010

Have you ever stopped to think about all of the office supplies that you use in your home or in your office or in a classroom?  The first time you can’t find a pen or a pencil to write down a phone number you start to realize that there are things that we just count on having in our homes or in our offices.  It is amazing to think through all of the different things that we use in our daily lives.

You might need a pair of scissors or tape or envelopes or even white paper.  Have you ever gone to print something on your printer and found that you were out of paper?  That can become a very stressful thing when a child needs to turn in a report that day.  That is definitely something that you find yourself running to the store to buy if you are out of it.  The other thing that many don’t think about is all of the ink that they use on their printers.  You might not give it much thought until you run out of ink.  Then you realize how important the ink is.

Regardless of what you do or what your profession is or if you are an adult or a child office supplies are necessities in everyone’s life.  From supplies for the classroom to necessities for the office or even for the home everyone needs a pen, scissors, tape, staples, paper, ink and the list goes on.

Tax Attorneys Can Help Get You Out of a Tight Spot With the IRS

Posted in Uncategorized on May 24th, 2010

One of the most convoluted and complicated systems in existence is the United States tax code.  The tax code confounds just about everyone but the IRS, and sometimes I wonder if they even really understand it.

There does happen to be one particular, peculiar species that has managed to master understanding of the tax code.  They spend years in school, studying tax law forward and backward, inside and out.  They are called tax attorneys, and they will save your hide if you get in a bind with the IRS.

Even if you aren’t exactly in tax trouble, there are some instances when consulting a tax lawyer would be a wise move.  If, for example, you are starting a business, you should look into getting some council.  Unless you were born with an innate ability to comprehend the not so subtle manner in which the US government attempts to tax small businesses into oblivion, you should seek the council of a tax lawyer.  Business taxes are not simple.

Sometimes due to misunderstandings, changes in filing status, or other reasons, people neglect to pay all of the taxes required of them.  If you find yourself in such a situation, a tax attorney can help you to understand where you went wrong, and what exactly you have to do to make it right again.  A tax attorney may not be able to get you out of paying your tax debt, but he or she will most likely be able to help you get the problem solved in a manner that is comprehendible.

The IRS is definitely something you don’t want to mess with.  If you have complicated tax issues, don’t make the mistake of attempting to figure them out for yourself.  Let a tax attorney put your mind at ease, and help you correctly navigate your way through the confusing world of taxes.

African Movies Making Headway

Posted in Arts and Entertainment on May 21st, 2010

Hollywood has been the big apple to catch up with for many decades but other cultures and movie industries are making headway with the big guys.  Bollywood makes more films and more money currently than does our American filmmakers.  Shear numbers may account for a lot of that, but it is an interesting industry to study trends and dollars spent and earned.

African Movies are making a splash on the scene with some very well done movies and acting.  Check out Africanmovies.com to watch heartwarming and often tragic movie trailers depicting life in Africa.  Some of the most popular titles include:  Tears of Womanhood, Loy Enemies, Torment, Beloved, Material Girl, My Flesh My Blood and A Sting in a Tail.  There is plenty of action and spice to light up any screen.  For .99 cents per part you can watch the movies online. There is tragedy, love, abandonment, violence, mature themes and just about anything you enjoy in a movie including great acting and beautiful people.

Movies are alive and well all around the world as directors, producers and actors portray what they feel passionate about and what social ills and problems need addressing.  Some movies are purely entertaining while others tackle difficult tasks.  Just like America movies there is a difference in directors and actors but one thing doesn’t seem to be lacking and that is passion in all its forms.  Hollywood may still be the industry standard for many people but keep your eye on Bollywood and African Movies as runner-ups.
