Purchase Commercial Grade Equipment

Posted in Operations management on September 28th, 2010

When you are opening up a business there are several different expenses.  Some of them you can foresee, but then there are others that you might be surprised by.  Obviously there are start up expenses.  That could be finishing out the building and getting it ready for your business.  Then there is the inventory that you have to have on hand.  If you are going to open a restaurant then you have all different types of equipment that you have to consider getting.

If you have never opened up a restaurant you might find yourself being very surprised at how much equipment it takes to open your business.  Not only is it the list of the equipment, but it is the price of the equipment.  You might be used to shopping at the local store and had figured that restaurant commercial equipment would run about the same.  Maybe you are looking at something that is going to cook your soups.  You might have thought you could just get a crock pot at the local store and that would do the job.  You might even choose to ignore the warnings and do it so that you can save a little money.  Then you quickly learn that you probably didn’t save any money due to having to purchase a commercial one soon after opening due to it breaking down.

The other bad thing is that it might not really maintain the heat that your soups really need for commercial use.  From refrigeration units to hot food display’s it is important to make sure you go with commercial equipment.  Even if it costs more up front you will be very grateful in the long run.

Fighting the Negative Image of Learning Disabilities in Young Adults

Posted in Medical on September 27th, 2010

There are some really sobering statistics out there on how many students with learning disabilities get on drugs, how many drop out of high school, how many girls end up pregnant, how many end up in prison, and how many end up on welfare. Our society likes to pass the blame of certain undesirable behaviors on to something beyond our control, like having a learning disability, growing up during the recession, or being raised without both parents in the home. But how about the up side? Are there not adults who succeed at a college for ADHD students? Aren’t there any nurses or high school guidance counselors who have learning disabilities?

The truth is that one out of every seven Americans has some sort of learning disability. And no, they don’t all end up in prison, pregnant at 15, or addicted to Meth. You will find successful adults in just about every field who have learning disabilities. There are teachers, writers, chefs, social workers, and engineers who all faced their own limitations at some point and succeeded.

The toughest obstacle for young adults with ADHD or other disabilities is finding a college that will give them the support that they need. Sometimes, this can be a community college close to home, where students live at home and have the support and guidance of a parent as they transition to the college environment. Other times, students are lucky enough to attend colleges for ADHD students and those with disabilities that offer small class sizes and allow them to learn and gain confidence in the academic world. Wherever students with learning disabilities end up, the important thing is to support the young adult as he or she finishes high school and enters the critical phase when they are training for and selecting a career.

Posted in Kitchen and Housewares on September 24th, 2010

If you have a loved one who is aging and is in need of some assistance, you need to understand the caregiving options. Many individuals think that the only choices are putting their loved one in a rest home or caring for their relative in their own home full time. In truth, there are many different types of assistance that you can find for your loved one, and your best option is to customize a care giving plan that best meets the desires of your loved one and the ability of others around them to meet their needs.

Home care in Montgomery county is a great option, allowing your loved one to live in your home or in their own familiar surroundings and receive the assistance they need from day to day. There are several types of home care, ranging from a few hours a week to full time day and night. Many home care agencies can provide your loved one with a live in nurse or companion, if your loved one needs full time care. Part time caregiving is a good option for many families who are caring for an elderly relative, and need assistance from time to time.

Part time caregiving is known as respite care, whether it is in the home or out of the home. You can have a home care respite caregiver come to your home several times a week or every day, depending on your needs. You can also provide your loved one with out-of-home respite care, including adult day programs a few days a week. Out of home respite care also includes caregiver support groups, which are important for the health of family caregivers.

What A Sustainable Community Is

Posted in Building and Remodeling on September 24th, 2010

If you are living or working in a sustainable community and you don’t even know it, this is what you should read.  A sustainable community is basically a place where people would love to live, work and see themselves there for a long time.  The sustainable community also tries to offer a high quality of life as well as making sure the environment is safe and will include diverse needs.

There are guidelines that communities should follow if they want to be considered a sustainable community.  The community has to make sure there are hospitals, shops, schools, public transportation and homes where the prices are affordable for people.  Communities also need to have a place where the public can voice their opinions about how the neighborhood is being run, and a place where they can let their worries go.

Sustainable communities can be diverse; they don’t have to fit a certain cookie cutter template.  Although, it is nice if the communities strive for an active, inclusive and safe community.  A lot of times there will be a community plan that has been written.  The community then can take a look at the plan and decide which of the plan they should start to develop.

Local governments like to be involved in creating sustainable communities.  It helps their communities be a better thriving area as well as give the local government a pat on the back.  Well, if you don’t know if you live in a sustainable community, at least you know how one should start one.

Your Furniture Tells A lot About You!

Posted in Home on September 22nd, 2010

If our furniture represents our personality, what if you have two very different people sharing the same house?  We do in our house.  My husband is safe, he likes classic lines, fabrics and styles.  He doesn’t like anything to be too loud or draw too much attention.  I am an artist, I love color, style, interesting pieces of furniture and accessories.  I want him to feel comfortable at home and not like he is living in someone else’s home, it has to feel like home to him but I don’t want to die of boredom either so we compromise.  We shop at Furniture Stores in Athens, GA and buy our big pieces conservative.  We just redid our living room, we bought well made brown solid leather couches and added a cement odd size coffee table with pottery shards on it in a rainbow of color.  The walls are safe a peaceful green with bright colored frames, accents and pictures to bring interest.  We make it work for us.  Colorful, ecliptic, conservative and classy.

Austin Furniture store in Austin, GA has it all, from safe to funky, classic to contemporary.  You can combine taste, styles and personalities to make an interesting and comfortable home for all those that live there.  I was impressed with their selection and quality.  From Martha Steward, art deco to Better Homes and Garden lines that are aesthetically pleasing.  What is your personality?  What does your house say about you and those that live there.  Be bold, be brave, be fun loving, but stick to classic major pieces and you can mix and match often for new looks.  Accessories are the cheap part, buy quality sofa’s, beds, you know, the big stuff, and have fun with throw pillows and candles and pictures.  Let your furniture say what it wants about you!

A Pool Getaway At Home

Posted in Home on September 20th, 2010

Recently I stayed with a friend during a business trip to a neighboring city.  As I arrived at the location and parked my car, I was impressed by the quaint neighborhood.  I quickly walked up a flight of steps on the hillside leading up to her home.  Her home is situated on a lovely hill with a great view overlooking the city skyline.  I was thoroughly impressed with the house and the layout, but I was even more impressed by the beauty of the backyard.  A sliding glass door led out onto a stone path on the side of the house.  The path wound around the side and led into a beautiful shaded garden area.  Tropical plants and trees filled the space, making it feel like a remote tropical getaway.  But my favorite feature was the pool.  It was built into the hillside in stone, making it look almost like a natural spring hidden away in her backyard.  A hot tub was adjacent to the pool, built in the same stone.  It was the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, to relax, and to enjoy the peaceful setting.

If you are considering installing a pool, you want to hire professionals who are reliable and knowledgeable.  An improperly installed pool can cause a lot of expensive damage and trouble.  But even more than that, you want a company that can design and install a beautiful space in your backyard.  Residents of Ohio looking for a reliable company in the installation and design of quality pools in Cincinnati should contact Advanced Spas & Pools.

Floor Scales for all Your Weighing Needs

Posted in Business on September 20th, 2010

The cost of doing business is staggering.  I work for a small company that delivers parts to larger organizations, I am amazed as I look out over our warehouse at the fork lifts, pallets, cranes,  floor scales, packaging, and labelers not to mention the human resources, warehouse costs and office supply expenses.  The cost of doing business is high, so revenue must be in keeping with cost in order to be profitable.  Human resources alone is draining to a company with health benefits, vacations, training, salary, hourly pay, 401k and benefit packages.  Employees are a heavy cost but also the oil that keeps the machines running.  Without competent, loyal help, no business could be successful.  Good people run good businesses.  It’s just expensive.

Our company is small and our cost high, I often think what it would be like to work for a large supplier, a large packaging plant or somewhere like FEDEX or UPS.  It would be fun to watch those warehouses in action.  The stress, the accuracy and efficiency would be staggering.  Time oriented efficiency is the name of the game.

Keeping tabs on weight of the products being shipped with floor scales helps us keep our bottom line trimmed and ensure exact and accurate shipments.  No one wants to be cheated out of what they ordered and no company wants to ship products that hasn’t been paid for, so good floor scales keeps everyone honest and happy.  The cost of business I never cheap, but a well run warehouse or industrial shipping company can be rewarding and profitable.

What You Need to Know About Buying and Selling Gold and Silver

Posted in Advertising and Marketing on September 20th, 2010

The price of silver and, especially, gold has skyrocketed over the past few years, making it one of the most consistently profitable investments on the market.  No one knows for sure how high prices may reach.  A couple of days ago an ounce of gold was valued at almost $1250.  I remember hearing market annalist discussing the chance of it hitting $1000.00 not too long ago.  The future for gold and silver looks bright if you are a collector, a buyer, or a seller.  Not just gold coins and bullion are going up in price, scrap gold and silver is likewise skyrocketing.  If you are in need of a little extra cash, this might be the place to start.  Pay off your bills with the gold and silver you haven’t used in years.  We all have a few extra trinkets, rings, and watches taking up space in our jewelry boxes.  Buying and selling silver in Birmingham affords the opportunity to make a little extra money by selling things you have but don’t use.

How can you tell if the things you have laying around are real silver?  Sterling silver flatware is almost always marked somewhere on the piece, most often on the backside of a fork or spoon.  It will say “sterling” or 925.  Either of these marks indicates sterling silver. Half dollars minted before 1970 may be 40% silver, but not dimes and nickels or quarters from era.  All silver coins minted before 1964 were made of 90% silver and therefore have great value.  If you are in the market for buying or selling silver in Birmingham or Chattanooga do your homework to get the most value.  Do a little homework and make sure you are doing business with a competent, reliable company that preferably has been in business for a while and let your old broken pieces of jewelry, flatware, or coins help pay the bills for you.
