I Loved My Five Years with World Financial Group

Posted in Tutoring and Study Aids on March 14th, 2010

If I would have had a better business sense back when I began at World Financial Group, I am sure I would have become very successful.  As it turns out, I had not business education whatsoever and WFG became my source for business education.  As soon as I started with WFG, I obtained all my licenses quickly and began working as a finance coach for residential families, and did so full time for five years.

One year ago, I made the decision to re-enter the world of the employee and put my finance business on hold.  Doing so has allowed me to look back and see what I loved about my experience and what I did not.  For a while, I loved being a finance coach.  I did a lot of good things for families and their finances.  Something that I grew to despise overtime, however, is the fact that I had to babysit my clients for years following.  Each year during an annual review with a client, I would have to re-sell the product I sold and made a commission on, a year previous.
The process repeated every year and I got sick of it.

On the flip side of the coin, I have come to realize that there is a part of WFG that I miss terribly.  WFG seems to attract a certain personality of person.  Their system filters out the weak minded, and people who only joined to get rich quick.  At one event I attended, I purchased one of those rubber wristbands which has “No Family Left Behind” written on it.  Although I have been away from WFG for over a year now, I still wear this wristband.

What You Need to Become a Balloon Twister or Artist

Posted in Tutoring and Study Aids on February 14th, 2010

If you like people and you like balloons, you could be ready to make a career change! No matter how rotten the economy gets, people will always have parties both at home and at work, and balloon artists will always be in demand. There is a big difference between folks who twist balloons for children’s parties and restaurants and balloon artists who may create extravagant sculptures for corporate events or high-end weddings. Whether you want to be a twister or a balloon “artiste,” the basic needs will be the same. Here is a quick look at what you’ll need to do to become a balloon twister or artist.

– Make an honest assessment of your personality

If you want to be a twister, you’ll need to really love being around children and have an endless supply of patience because they will be your primary “customers.” Balloon artists will work primarily with businesses in corporate settings and should have solid communications skills and an ability to listen and compromise. Of course, you also need to be fearless of popping balloons: ’cause it’s gonna happen lots!

– Read a lot and play a lot

There are several excellent books on the market on how to become a balloon artist or twister. They cover not only the ins and outs of the business but also its potential for profitability. Make sure to study the business end of things while you also study the practical end of things. A career as a balloon artist for corporate events can actually be quite lucrative if you know how to do it right! Get yourself plenty of balloons and start playing: especially if you’re twisting. It takes a lot of practice to get really good and you will have to get used to doing the same thing over and over and over again till it becomes second nature.

– Get the right equipment

Not all balloons and equipment are created equal. Do some research and partner with a high quality balloon distributor whose products and services you trust: after all, you’ll be dealing a lot with each other over the years!

This is just a snapshot look at getting started. It is always a good idea to join online forums and meet others like you who are interested in or who are already making a living with balloons. Like anything else, it takes perseverance to really make a career in balloons “lift off!”
