Avoid Injuries to the Wrist and Hand from Playing Billiards

Posted in Home on July 26th, 2009

Believe it not, playing billiards and pool can cause injuries to the wrist and hand area. The injuries are known as Repetitive Motion Injuries (RMI), caused when the tendon becomes inflamed. Other names for this condition are, “Tendonitis” or “Bursitis”, when a bursa sac (a small pouch that lubricates the space between a tendon and bone) becomes inflamed. Full-blown tendonitis may become “tenosynovitis”, whereby the inflammation affects the tendon and the tendon sheath. Many athletes suffer from some form of tendonitis or tensynovitis from repeated stress or overuse by repeated straining of one area.

A form of tendonitis afflicts PC users who sit at a computer for long hours and use a mouse without a cushion or a form of elevation for the wrists. Working a mouse and typing at a keyboard from a fixed wrist position puts a strain on the wrist muscles, causing a condition known as, “carpel tunnel syndrome”.

Pool shooters can avoid strain on their wrist and hands by following these tips:

  •  Hold the cue stick with a firm but relaxed grip. Gripping the cue stick tightly creates tension through the wrist and forearm.
  •  Fasten an impact-dampening tool on the butt end of the cue. This softens the feel of the hit on the cue ball, improving the play and providing a health benefit. This is called a “limbsaver” or a “cue stabilizer”.

Check with a professional at your favorite Marin billiards, Napa billiards or Sonoma pool tables dealer for a limsaver or cue stabilizer and get a demo.

The Connecticut Johnson House, “The Glass House”

Posted in Home on June 13th, 2009

The Johnson house, also known as “The Glass House,” is a very sophisticated steel-framed glass house, that has attracted attention all over the world. For a box style house, it has a high degree of sophistication. The theme of the house is that of a game of chess caught in the moment of checkmate. The design is nearly completely open glass and has some of the largest windows in Connecticut, compared to other architecture during the same era, 1949.

Many have criticized the functionality of such a home, as not able to offer enough privacy as a true home should. The creator, Philip Johnson, said this “…Comfort is not a function of beauty… purpose is not necessary to make a building beautiful…sooner or later we will fit our buildings so that they can be used…where form comes from I don’t know, but it has nothing at all to do with the functional or sociological aspects of our architecture.” I am not sure what that means, but there you go.

The truth is, no one actually lives in it, and it attracts many art loving tourists each year. On the same grounds are many modern sculptures, as well as beautiful flower gardens. All visitors to the Glass House site are required to purchase a tour ticket. Tours are recommended for ages 10 and up. All tours cover a half mile of uneven terrain so please choose shoes suitable for diverse terrain. No food or drink is allowed on the site, with the exception of water.

Finding the Best Designer Prom Dresses

Posted in Home on June 2nd, 2009

Prom was probably the best experience of my high school career. Aside from the actual event, finding the perfect dress was the best part about prom. The theme for my prom was “Classic Hollywood,” and after hours of searching, I found the perfect black and white satin gown for the event.

As exciting as prom can be, sometimes finding the perfect dress is stressful. The key to finding that right gown is to narrow your options and to shop around.

After you try on a few dresses, you should know what kind of cut you like–ball gown, a-line, empire waist, or mermaid. The neckline, whether it be sweetheart or v-cut, is also an important consideration. Once you’ve decided what style of dress looks best on you, it’s time to seriously shop.

Going to multiple stores is ideal for prom dress shopping so that you can see all of your options. And as you shop, you’ll also want to remember the theme of the prom and what your date is wearing to make sure you and your dress make a statement for all the right reasons. (But to be fair, you’re date should always get a tux to match you, not the other way around.) Also, it’s crucial that you avoid the faux pas of showing up to prom in the same dress as someone else. The best way to avoid that disaster and to make heads turn is to buy designer.

Now, if you’re a savvy shopper, you can find designer dresses at completive prices that compare to the prices of formal dresses at department stores. For instance, Net Fashion Avenue sells designer prom dresses that are absolutely gorgeous and also affordable. My favorite dress from Net Fashion Avenue is this deep blue Jovani evening gown. It’s absolutely stunning.

Shopping designer and finding the best prom dress to make your special evening unforgettable is an adventure, and if you do it right, it can also be fun.

Why Use Slatwall for Your Business

Posted in Home on May 28th, 2009

Slatwalls are a great choice for some businesses that have a lot of inventory to display without the amount of space they really need to do so. slatwall can change a business’ aesthetic through making it possible to see all of the goods at once. Depending on what goods you have to sell, slatwall can help you increase your business by making it possible for a customer to see and choose their goods.

slatwall is essentially a wall made up of small slats, leaving spaces in between each one. These spaces are the perfect size for shelving or wire baskets, as well as anything else that can hang there. Many stores choose to hang racks on their slatwall, so that multiple goods can hang in groups. Whichever way you choose to utilize it, slatwall keeps your goods neat and organized. Installing slatwall is easy, and it is easily removed when you’re ready to take it with you. It’s the perfect short term solution for your business.

Slatwall is lightweight, and because of this, some consideration should be put into the weight of items being hung on it. Choose other lightweight items that won’t put too much pressure on the wall. It’s perfect for craft items, souvenirs, clothes, and even lighter books and magazines. Whatever you need to use it for, slatwall is a great solution to a small business space.

Doormat Debate: Important First Impression Or Simple Cleaning Feature?

Posted in Home on May 20th, 2009

First impressions are important in everything from forming personal relationships to trying to impress in business situations, whether it’s a one-on-one job interview or power breakfast meeting. Real estate professionals are constantly telling home sellers that the first impression, starting at the curb appeal of their home, can not only make or break a sale but even determine whether a potential buyer views the property at all. After the curb comes the front door and the first thing you see when your open the door is the doormat.

One of the easiest and most cost effective improvements you’ll make to your home, whether you’re thinking of selling or not, is the purchase of an exclusive, top quality entry mat. Look for one from a home couture dealer that stocks woven doormats with a variety of designs, colors and patterns from which to choose. Measure your door and the entryway to ensure the fit is suitable, especially if you have a special feature like a double door that you may wish to accentuate.

It’s not only looks that matter: you’ll want to buy a carpet that is stain and mold resistant, so look for something called polypropylene fiber. And because looks to matter, make sure the door mat is trimmed along all four sides with a serged edging. Another pointer to remember is that you don’t really want a pad for the doormat as you do with wall-to-wall or large area carpets, so buy an entry mat that has a non-slip backing and that does not damage hardwood or tile floors.

Secret Shopping: Make Money Doing What You Love Most

Posted in Home on January 21st, 2009

If you are a man or woman that appreciates dipping your feet into the local culture, consider secret shopping as a way to be paid for doing it.  Secret shoppers are secret agents; they infiltrate their local hot spots and hang outs in order to evaluate and report on the service they receive there. Secret shopping is the perfect way to obtain new clothes, eat out at no cost and even get paid cash for doing it.

Is This Legit?

People often say that if something seems too good to be true, it is.  This is the case with some secret shopping organizations, which are out to defraud you of upfront enrollment fees.  However, secret shopping is a viable employment option and legitimate businesses such as premiershoppers.com do exist, that will be happy to employ the right people.

Make sure to check into any company offering to hire you for your secret shopping services.  Verify their positive record among their employees, check them out using an internet search engine, and call the Better Business Bureau to make sure they are not listed as fraudulent business owners.

How Does it Work?

Your secret shopping experience will begin with an assignment.  You will be tasked with visiting a certain restaurant, retail establishment, or entertainment venue in your community.  Once there, you will need to evaluate the service you receive, using the strict guidelines given you by your employer.

Usually, you will be asked to request a certain set of particular services and rate the business upon its ability to provide them with excellence.  For instance, in a restaurant you may be asked to require that your server give you a full verbal report of the daily specials.   If the server does an outstanding job, you would discreetly write that information down in order to add it to your report.

Once you have fully tested and rated the service of any assigned establishment, you will write a report for your employer and deliver it to them.  Once your report is approved, you will be paid for your services.

How Do I Sign Up?

It is important to do your homework on the secret shopping organizations with which you desire to associate yourself.  Try checking out a website such as premiershoppers.com or use an online search engine to find the secret shopping agency that is right for you.  Take your time and verify the claims of every secret shopping job offer you encounter.  In addition, make sure that the company has a strong employee support team that will answer any of the questions or concerns you may encounter while on the job.

You should never be asked to pay outrageous fees for the privilege of being employed.  If an agency is asking you to pay a registration fee, feel free to call them and ask why you are being charged.  If they cannot provide you with a satisfactory answer, keep looking for an organization that is out to hire you, not take you for ride.

Information about Mexican Restaurants in the US.

Posted in Home on October 9th, 2008

What are known as Mexican restaurants in the United States are generally “Tex-Mex” cuisine rather than authentic Mexican fare, and include dishes like burritos, cheese enchiladas, quesadillas, fajitas, tostadas, and more. What Americans know as Mexican food is generally a fusion of Mexican dishes and southern American (often Texan) dishes. Well known American chains that serve Mexican food are Chipotle, Qdoba, Azteca, and fast food versions like Taco Bell and Taco Tico, but most communities will have independent Mexican restaurants as well. Mexican restaurants are common and easily found throughout the United States and may be available in other areas as well.
