The Right Flooring Is Critical

Posted in Home on October 5th, 2010

Several years ago we were building our first home.  We used a builder and as the home was in the process of being built we would get calls saying that we needed to come over and pick out certain things.  Since it was our first time we were surprised by all of the different choices we were given.  We would pick out the stucco color and the style of the exterior.  Then there was picking out the light fixtures, paint colors, countertops, cabinets and flooring.

As we went through all of these steps we found that several of the things weren’t too difficult to pick out.  We knew what we liked and what we wanted our home to look like.  When it came to our flooring we were only given a few choices.  We had never gone to different carpet stores to look at all of the different options and even the option of helping with protecting our carpet.  We looked at the few choices and made a decision.

We liked our decision for a few days, but as soon as our children walked in the house with muddy feet we realized it would be impossible to keep this carpet clean or stain proof.  We had really cheap carpet that would have to be replaced very quickly.  We looked at different carpet stores and one of my friends said that we should look at carpet stores in Chicago.  She pointed out that Chicago is known for style and they haven’t missed the boat with carpet.

Your Furniture Tells A lot About You!

Posted in Home on September 22nd, 2010

If our furniture represents our personality, what if you have two very different people sharing the same house?  We do in our house.  My husband is safe, he likes classic lines, fabrics and styles.  He doesn’t like anything to be too loud or draw too much attention.  I am an artist, I love color, style, interesting pieces of furniture and accessories.  I want him to feel comfortable at home and not like he is living in someone else’s home, it has to feel like home to him but I don’t want to die of boredom either so we compromise.  We shop at Furniture Stores in Athens, GA and buy our big pieces conservative.  We just redid our living room, we bought well made brown solid leather couches and added a cement odd size coffee table with pottery shards on it in a rainbow of color.  The walls are safe a peaceful green with bright colored frames, accents and pictures to bring interest.  We make it work for us.  Colorful, ecliptic, conservative and classy.

Austin Furniture store in Austin, GA has it all, from safe to funky, classic to contemporary.  You can combine taste, styles and personalities to make an interesting and comfortable home for all those that live there.  I was impressed with their selection and quality.  From Martha Steward, art deco to Better Homes and Garden lines that are aesthetically pleasing.  What is your personality?  What does your house say about you and those that live there.  Be bold, be brave, be fun loving, but stick to classic major pieces and you can mix and match often for new looks.  Accessories are the cheap part, buy quality sofa’s, beds, you know, the big stuff, and have fun with throw pillows and candles and pictures.  Let your furniture say what it wants about you!

A Pool Getaway At Home

Posted in Home on September 20th, 2010

Recently I stayed with a friend during a business trip to a neighboring city.  As I arrived at the location and parked my car, I was impressed by the quaint neighborhood.  I quickly walked up a flight of steps on the hillside leading up to her home.  Her home is situated on a lovely hill with a great view overlooking the city skyline.  I was thoroughly impressed with the house and the layout, but I was even more impressed by the beauty of the backyard.  A sliding glass door led out onto a stone path on the side of the house.  The path wound around the side and led into a beautiful shaded garden area.  Tropical plants and trees filled the space, making it feel like a remote tropical getaway.  But my favorite feature was the pool.  It was built into the hillside in stone, making it look almost like a natural spring hidden away in her backyard.  A hot tub was adjacent to the pool, built in the same stone.  It was the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, to relax, and to enjoy the peaceful setting.

If you are considering installing a pool, you want to hire professionals who are reliable and knowledgeable.  An improperly installed pool can cause a lot of expensive damage and trouble.  But even more than that, you want a company that can design and install a beautiful space in your backyard.  Residents of Ohio looking for a reliable company in the installation and design of quality pools in Cincinnati should contact Advanced Spas & Pools.

Expanding On A Sales Background

Posted in Home on August 2nd, 2010

I have often thought about obtaining my real estate license. After selling cars, and other door-to-door, and B2B sales undertakings, I have been interested in selling real estate. I know that the commissions are larger and more rewarding for people that are earning money from the buying and selling of property. I have also given considerable thought to becoming a famous New York land barren and developer, following in the footsteps of Donald Trump. With the real estate classes NYC training centers offer, I can set my own pace and complete the requirements for taking the state examination when I am ready to.

By continuing to work at my current job while studying the different course curriculum I can transition into a new career without disrupting my income. Of course I may take as long as three months to complete the training for the exam, but the alternative is to quit my job and speed through the real estate classes in as little as a week. I have heard that even after passing the exam and being hired as a real estate associate in an established NYC brokerage that it can take a little time to close that first deal. But I am willing to do the work and study hard.

With the options available to a hungry young professional, like myself I can double and possibly triple my present income within the first year. By attending real estate classes NYC residents can expand their possibilities and find a secure line of work that will provide a substantial income. That’s why I am looking at a school that can prepare me for a bright future as a realtor.

Tips To Finding A Daycare For Your Child

Posted in Home on June 21st, 2010

For many parents, children are an essential part of life.  Many parents do want to make sure that they provide the best possible resources for their children. Daycare is definitely a resource that you as a parent shouldn’t slide by with.

Searching for a day care facility should be the same as researching out companies for a job.  You want to be thorough in your investigation of the facilities to make sure they are suitable for your child.  Start looking at least six months before you need to put your child in daycare.  You want to give yourself a sufficient amount of time to really look into possible daycare facilities.

Once you have found a daycare you want to make sure you have covered a few things before sealing the deal with the daycare.  You want to first make sure that the daycare is near your company that you work at.  If having a daycare closer to your home than your work is more what you are looking for, that is fine, just make sure you decide this before you close with a daycare.

Always check the environment of the daycare when you are researching daycares.  Check to see if the surroundings of the daycare are clean and tidy.  Another tip with daycares are to see if there are lots of children playing or very few.  Decide whether you would like your child surrounded by lots of children or just a few.

There are many different resources that you as a parent can check into when finding a daycare.  Going online to check the National Association of Family Child Care will give you plenty of information on what accredited daycare centers there are.

Standing Up To Mother Nature

Posted in Home on June 15th, 2010

No one wants to be left out in the rain, and under the storms that move through central Texas that means having a quality roof over your head when the inclement weather hits. Having a new construction built or just making repairs to an existing home there are always concerns about finishing a project in the shortest time possible whenever there are openings or exposed rafters that can allow precipitation to fall on the construction site. Knowing that the uncomfortable feeling of having your possessions exposed to Mother Nature is not something that anyone enjoys, Austin roofing contractors work hard to make sure that their projects are completed in the fastest timeframe, so that owners are not left nervously watching the sky and praying for sunshine while laborers take their time to finish up.

With all manner of hostile and often unpredictable weather patterns moving throughout the region installing the best protection for a residence that can withstand anything that the elements can dish out is the primary goal of professional roofing organizations that build each structure with the same standard to quality that they would put into their own houses. With this commitment to integrity it is easy to see that the high quality materials and work ethic of the individual laborers makes for a finished product that is to the satisfaction of any property owner. Meeting and exceeding expectations for the outlined timetable and budgets the Austin roofing contractors are making sure that each of their customers receives a solid form of protection that will stand for years against whatever the climate of Texas has in store.

The Importance of A/C Maintenance

Posted in Home on June 11th, 2010

A few years ago I moved into a townhome with two roommates.  For several years the owners had lived in the townhome, but recently they had decided to build a home, move into it, and rent the other location.  They’d had the “For Rent” sign up for only a few minutes before I called to set up a time to check the place out.  When my roommates and I moved in we were a little shocked at what we found.  They hadn’t bothered to clean the place at all.  In fact, we found bags of flour and pots and pans still in the cupboards.  The walls were filthy; the floors were a mess; and the cupboards were a fright.  For several days we scoured the place until it sparkled.  Since we moved in during the spring season, we hadn’t needed the air conditioning for the first few weeks.  But as the weather warmed up, it became necessary to turn it on.  I should have realized the air conditioner was in the same state as the rest of the home.  A terrible smell wafted in through the vents.  It was either time to change the filter or time to call in the repairman.

If you are in a similar situation, perhaps it’s time to call in the experts.  Residents of Arizona can rely on Cool Blew Plumbing, Heating, And Air Conditioning for any Phoenix air conditioning repair needs.  For decades, the professionals at Cool Blew have been repairing and maintaining air conditioners and much more.

Spicing Up Your Front Door

Posted in Home on June 11th, 2010

You may not realize it but the front door of your home is a huge part of the general aesthetic of your home’s exterior.  You can alter the look of your home just by changing up your front door.  If your door is old and faded or the paint is peeling, perhaps it’s time to update with something fresh.  It’s easy to spice up your home’s exterior with just a few simple tricks.

The easiest trick is a new coat of paint.  You’d be surprised how much better your home will look with a bright front door.  If yours is a drab, neutral color, consider changing things up with something a little bit brighter.  A gallon of bright red door can work wonders on an old and boring door.  If you are going to paint, make sure you get a paint that is meant for the outdoors and can hold up in diverse weather conditions.  Another easy way to spice it up is by adding a decorative iron entry door to either replace or install over the existing door.  Decorative iron doors can add just about any design element you can think of to the look of your home.  Landmark Iron is a great resource for those looking for entry doors in Arizona.  If you have a wooden entry door, another great idea is to sand it down to the original wood color try a new wood stain.  This will also get rid of any nicks or dings in the wood that have accumulated over the years.  In a few simple steps you can have a brand new look.

Avoid Injuries to the Wrist and Hand from Playing Billiards

Posted in Home on July 26th, 2009

Believe it not, playing billiards and pool can cause injuries to the wrist and hand area. The injuries are known as Repetitive Motion Injuries (RMI), caused when the tendon becomes inflamed. Other names for this condition are, “Tendonitis” or “Bursitis”, when a bursa sac (a small pouch that lubricates the space between a tendon and bone) becomes inflamed. Full-blown tendonitis may become “tenosynovitis”, whereby the inflammation affects the tendon and the tendon sheath. Many athletes suffer from some form of tendonitis or tensynovitis from repeated stress or overuse by repeated straining of one area.

A form of tendonitis afflicts PC users who sit at a computer for long hours and use a mouse without a cushion or a form of elevation for the wrists. Working a mouse and typing at a keyboard from a fixed wrist position puts a strain on the wrist muscles, causing a condition known as, “carpel tunnel syndrome”.

Pool shooters can avoid strain on their wrist and hands by following these tips:

  •  Hold the cue stick with a firm but relaxed grip. Gripping the cue stick tightly creates tension through the wrist and forearm.
  •  Fasten an impact-dampening tool on the butt end of the cue. This softens the feel of the hit on the cue ball, improving the play and providing a health benefit. This is called a “limbsaver” or a “cue stabilizer”.

Check with a professional at your favorite Marin billiards, Napa billiards or Sonoma pool tables dealer for a limsaver or cue stabilizer and get a demo.
