Make Getting Engaged Magical

Posted in Travel on June 15th, 2010

What are some of those magical places that you have always dreamed of visiting or living?  Maybe your magical place is Disneyland, but for others they might love the beach.  Then there are those that love learning about the history of the United States and love being in Washington DC and seeing all of the sites like the White House.

Besides the magical places that you dream of going who do you dream of being with?  Maybe you have a special friend or family that you love to travel with and the trip would be perfect if you were with them.  What would make it more perfect is if you were with a boyfriend or girlfriend that you are hoping to marry one day.

Now envision being in Washington DC or your magical place and being proposed to.  Maybe they purchased your engagement ring in DC and it makes everything about the experience perfect.

That might seem way out there and not really possible if you are not living there and you don’t plan on taking a vacation there, but what is important to remember is that if you are getting engaged and married then you can hope that this is the only time that this will happen in your life.  If you have the right person then you will want this time to be special and memorable.  It might not be at Disneyland, but you can make this an experience that you won’t forget.

Marriage Advice For Overworked Couples

Posted in Travel on May 25th, 2010

My wife and I have been planning a getaway from our five children for a couples retreat, and after doing some research in our local area we are looking at sneaking away from home for a couple of nights at one of the Utah resorts not too far away from our home. By splitting up the kids between my sister and grandma we can make an escape to the mountains and have a chance to reconnect with each other once more. With all of the strains and stresses of finishing a teaching degree and running between programs for school plays and all of the other activities of work that are associated with the daily routine it seems like forever since we have been able to take a break from all of the demands of life and spend some quality time together.

Because of our busy schedules we wanted to plan a simple weekend to ourselves that does not require a great deal of planning or preparation. What we found was a beautiful Utah resort within a short distance that caters to the kind of pampering that we are looking for. Aside from the luxurious accommodations, we have found a quiet place that has a full spa and natural mineral baths, golfing on a private course, and dining options that allow us to mingle with other people or hide out in our room and order in. After being married for 17 years we have discovered that it is essential to the health of our marriage to take a well deserved break from our obligations every once in a while and recharge our batteries, just the two of us.

Popular Caribbean Tropical Destinations

Posted in Travel on April 12th, 2010

One of the most popular places in the world to vacation is the Caribbean.  The Caribbean is an area located in the Caribbean Sea southeast of the Gulf of Mexico and north of South America.  It is comprised of over 7000 islands, cays, and reefs, which are known collectively as the West Indies.  The climate in the Caribbean is warm and tropical year-round, making it an ideal destination for tourists.  Listed below are the top three tropical vacation destinations in the Caribbean.

Aruba

Aruba is a flat, riverless island of the Lesser Antilles and is located in the heart of the Caribbean.  The area is famous around the world for its pristine white sandy beaches located on the southern and western sides of the island.  The location gives them shelter from damaging ocean currents.  Surfing, swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, boating, and golfing are just a few of the outdoor activities a tourist could experience.  Accommodations include hotels, resorts, villas and rental condos.

Cayman Islands

The Cayman Islands are a group of three islands in the Caribbean located south of Cuba and northwest of Jamaica.  The Seven Mile Beach on Grand Cayman Island is world-famous and often referred to as the best beach in the Caribbean.  The Caymans have unlimited activities for tourists and accommodations include some of the most prestigious hotels, resorts, and Cayman vacation rentals.

Barbados

The island of Barbados is a flat coral island with a warm sunny climate year-round, dryer than most other Caribbean islands.  The island features lush botanical gardens, acres of sugar can fields, and powdery white sandy beaches.  Barbados is often considered the more sophisticated and glitzier of the Caribbean islands with some of the best hotels and resorts in the area.

Finding a Job in the Caribbean

Posted in Travel on February 27th, 2008

The idea of living in a tropical paradise sounds good, and for the most part, it would be. However, there are a few items to consider before making the commitment to move to the Caribbean, or before you begin to search for Caribbean jobs.

The first thing to consider is the notion that even the Caribbean will lose its novelty and luster after you have lived there for a time. The idea of change is usually more appealing than the reality of change. Everyone says they want to live in the islands, but for many, they lose their novelty once they realize its not a permanent vacation. Finding a job is often a difficult process.

Local Job Search

Posted in Travel on January 29th, 2008

I recently worked for a company who closed the local office where I was working. 60 employees or so were essentially laid off and a mad scramble ensued to snag up any jobs that we could in our industry. I chuckle when I think about what that situation would have been like years ago, before that advent of the internet – newspapers strewn about and phone bills piling up, as we attempted to use phone books and rotary telephones to call people we know who might be able to help us in our quest for employment Read the rest of this entry »
