Home Schooling a Viable Alternative to the Decreasing Quality of Education in America?
To be honest I was initially skeptical about home schooling, wondering if a parent really has the skill base to teach. And I was checking everywhere on the internet and getting a ton of conflicting thoughts. To back up a bit, I don’t have any kids that are of school age. However, my alarmist wife is starting to make me think.
She is from Japan and in Japan you don’t normally get a lot of news about school shootings or big crime busts everyday. In fact if there is some violent crime or drug problem, it’s not isolated to one area, it becomes national news meaning it’s quite rare. So needless to say she has valid worries about our babies becoming kids and then becoming adults in this day and age.
Is Home Schooling for Me?
So to back to my original comment, with that in mind, I did check out some information from the Heritage Home School website and learned more about home schooling and making the grade as a stay at home parent slash teacher. I also realized how much actual support there is out there and, really it’s amazing, how much people are home schooling these days. It’s almost like a mini-revolution of sorts. I think my wife and I can hack it with this program and I know that we’ll probably learn from it as well. By learning, I don’t just mean getting over the learning curve with the material, but getting to know my kids as they grow up, since that is really what it’s all about — at least for me.
