Why Catering Supplies?

I have a good friend who is one of the best amateur cooks I’ve ever met. His tastes and ability to make delicious food really define him, in my opinion. Even though he’s not a professional cook, he loves to entertain and serve friends and family. His does have his weird, chef-like quirks, though. For instance, he won’t use “normal” kitchen supplies – he insists on fancy-schmancy catering supplies.

As he explains it, these products are far superior in durability, longevity, and overall quality which, in his opinion – as well as every connoisseur’s, makes them worth every bit of the money. I don’t know what to think. I know that to some degree, you do pay for quality, but to what extent?

I must admit, though, that every time I’m in his kitchen, whether I’m making a bowl of cereal, or eating one of his freshly-made fillets, I really enjoy the heavy-duty knives, cups and bowls that he has. Again, I don’t know if that means they’re better, but I can certainly see the appeal.

Another thing he loves about his catering supplies is that most of them come with unlimited lifetime guarantees which means that even if the quality is not quite as advertised, the manufacturer will repair or replace any defective items. I think this definitely makes them worth more money. Imagine having the assurance that the next knife you buy could be the only one you’ll ever have to buy. That sounds good to me.

So, while I still don’t think I could fork out the money that my friend does (no pun intended), I certainly have grown to understand what the appeal of expensive catering supplies.
