There are several things you can do to make your home more secure. Many homes get broken into because of the carelessness of the owners. Take a look at your landscaping and ask yourself if it would help or hinder a burglar. Will it give them a hiding spot, or does it make being sneaky difficult. Gravel can be quite noisy to walk through.
