Tips for First Time Home Builders
If you’re anything like me, it takes years to save up enough money to buy the property and materials that are needed to build your own house. Before you can even begin digging a hole and laying the foundation though, you also need to have the entire structure planned out. For those of us who didn’t major in architecture, this can be a bit of a challenge – unless you know where to find ready made house plans.
When you start shopping for a house plan, the first thing I would do is decide how large you want the structure and which style you want to build. For example, is the image in your mind a towering home with high ceilings and chandeliers or a cozier little place that is easy to heat and air condition? As far as styles are concerned you can choose anything from Tudor, Colonial and Tuscan to Victorian, Ranch or Traditional homes.
When you’re planning the layout, think about which rooms you spend the most time in as well. For example, my mother is an excellent cook and her kitchen, with three ovens and an oversized granite island in the middle, attests to how much time she spends in that room. Someone else probably would probably rather spend more of their money on the bedrooms or a home theater though. When you build you home from scratch, there are countless opportunities to make it just the way you like. Looking at house plans can give you a lot of ideas on how to use the space though.
