Finding a Job in the Caribbean
The idea of living in a tropical paradise sounds good, and for the most part, it would be. However, there are a few items to consider before making the commitment to move to the Caribbean, or before you begin to search for Caribbean jobs.
The first thing to consider is the notion that even the Caribbean will lose its novelty and luster after you have lived there for a time. The idea of change is usually more appealing than the reality of change. Everyone says they want to live in the islands, but for many, they lose their novelty once they realize its not a permanent vacation. Finding a job is often a difficult process.
With a fairly large population and a very confined space, it could be hard to find Caribbean job. Additionally, you will need to a work permit or sponsorship from an employer if you intend on being a resident alien. It would be advisable to contact the U.S. Embassy before you make the move to the islands.
There may be some additional red tape and hoops to jump through as well, as jobs in the Caribbean may be hard to obtain due to any number of restrictions and legal issues. However, there are always public and private sector jobs that need to be filled, and persistence could pay off if you are willing to commit to your dreams.
Also, keep in mind the industries that are biggest in the Caribbean. Tourism is one, so there may be jobs available (more so seasonally) in the industries of cruise liners, and resorts. Use the internet to research some of the companies and plan your move according to the needs of the tourism industry.
Your first step in the adventure is finding jobs in the Caribbean, after that, you can find a place to live, based on your salary, and continue towards living your dreams.
